Ponnur Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple

As per the Legends, A Brahmin by the Name Kesavaiah was childless and used to visit holy shrines with his brother-in-law Govindudu. Kesavaiah had promised Govindudu at the premises of Lord Narayana in Kasi that he will give his daughter to Govindudu for marriage. Kesavaiah was blessed with a baby girl and named her AkkaLakshmi. When Akkalakshmi attained the age for marriage, Govindudu expressed his interest in marrying her. Kesavaiah discarded hi proposal and asked him for the witness. Govindudu went to Kasi and prayed Lord Vishnu to act his witness. Impressed Lord Narayana manifested in Ponnur and acted as the witness for the Kesavaiah's promise. Hence, the name Sakshi Bhavanarayana Swamy.
It is also said that Lord Siva also came along with Narayana as the witness and manifested here.

Veera Anjaneya Swamy Temple Ponnur History

This temple was built by Kota Jaganatha Swamy in 1969 AD. Anjaneya Swamy is of 24 ft tall, 12 ft wide and 4 ft thickness. This statue carved out of a single black granite rock which was brought under the supervision of Bhavanarayana Swamy from Edlapadu near Chilakaluripet. There is a temple for Garuda within the temple complex which is of 30 ft tall, 15 ft wide and 6 ft thickness. 
Ponnur Anjaneya Swamy Temple is 28 km from Guntur. Hanuman Jayanthi will be celebrated in a grand for 4 days. Thousands of devotees from nearby place throng temple during festival days.

Kotappakonda Koteswara Swamy Temple

As per the legends, Prajapati Daksha's daughters married the devas, but the youngest daughter, Sati had chosen to marry Lord Siva against her father's wish. Daksha was not keeping good relation with his son-in-law Lord Siva. Daksha decided to perform Yajna to insult Lord Siva, for which he invited all the gods and goddesses, except Lord Shiva, to partake their offerings.
Sati on knowing the Yajna details, decided to visit her maternal house, though she was not invited. Sati was offended by the scoldings and immolated herself in the fire of Yogagni generated by her. Angered by this, Siva ordered Veerabhadra to destroy Daksha Yagna. Veerabhadra along with Kali and other Siva Ganas destroyed to Yajna and killed Daksha. Lord Siva did penance here on this hill (the present Maheswara Sikhara) to attain mental peace. To bring Lord Siva back to Kailash, Lord Vishnu and Brahma did penance here on other two hills for Lord Siva. Impressed with the penance, Lord Siva granted their wish. Vishnu expressed his desire to perform Abhishekam, for which Lord Siva pierced the mountain with his weapon Trishul and created a pool and self-manifested in Vishnu Sikhara (mountain). Vishnu performed abhisheka after taking bathing in this holy Tirtha. It is believed that taking a bath in this holy Tirtha will be relieved from the sins.

Bapatla Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple History

This temple is of 1500 years old and belongs to Saliavahana Sakam 515.  This temple was built during the reign of Chola King, Krimikanta Chola in the 5th century AD. During this time Chola King installed Eight village deities on the eight corners of the Village. This temple received patronage from Gajapati Kings and then by Vijayanagara Kings. This temple was exploited by the Muslim Kings and then by British rulers. French rulers demolished the eight deities in the village. The present Village deity Poleramma was installed in the South direction by the devotees.
The temple was renovated by Diwan Sri Raja Kadrengula Jogi Jagannatha Rao Bahadur from Rajahmundry and later by Raja Vasireddi Venkatadri . Temple tower was built by the Zamindar of Challapalli, Raja Vasireddi Venkatadri in 1850 AD. The temple tower of 85 ft tall and 25 ft wide was collapsed on 23 Oct 11.

As per the Legends, Lord Muruga imprisoned Lord Brahma for His ignorance towards Pranava Mantra Om and assumed the role of the Brahma (Creator). Lord Vishnu requested Lord Siva to resolve the dispute. Lord Siva asked Murugan to release Brahma for which Murugan replied that imprisonment is the punishment for his Ignorance. Then Siva asked Murugan to explain the meaning of Pranava Mantra 'Om' for which he had given a detailed explanation in His father's ear.  Murugan as the Guru and Siva and his disciple. This holy took place at Swamimalai.
It is believed that Goddess Bhudevi relieved from Goddess Parvati's curse by worshipping Murugan. Goddess Bhudevi transformed as a gooseberry tree and stayed here in the temple premises.  
This ancient temple was built in 2 BC and later renovated by the Chola Kinga Parantaka I. This temple was heavily damaged during the Anglo-French war.

Suriyanar Navagraha Temple Kumabkonam

This temple was built during the reign of Kulothuna I Chola during 1060 A.D-1118 AD. This temple was later renovated by Vijayanagara Kings. It is believed that taking a bath in Surya Pushkarini (Temple tank) will relieve Dosha. Jnana Koopam temple tank is located inside the temple. 
As per the legends, Sage Kalava Muni prayed Navagrahas for the cure from leprosy disease. Navagrahas granted the boon and Sage recovered from the disease. Angered Brahma Cursed Navagrahas to suffer from Leprosy disease. Navagrahas has to act as per the Karma but they cannot grant boon on their own. Navagrahas came down to the Earth and did penance for Lord Siva in Vellerukku Vahanam (Jungle filled with white flowers).  Impressed Lord Siva appeared before them and granted the boon that each Graha will have their own place of worship.

Venugopala Swamy Temple Hamsaladeevi History

As per the folklore, Two Gandharvas while flying over the Krishna delta, they came across a sage who was black in color. Gandharvas made fun of him. Angered sage cursed Gandharvas to become crows. Gandharvas regretted their mistake and pleaded Sage for the solution. Sage asked them to take a bath in the river Krishna near Hamsaladeevi. As advised they took bath here and got their actual form as Swan (Hamsa).  Hence, the place popular by Hamsaladeevi.
Another interesting story attached to this place, Sages in the form of Swans used to worship the Lord in the night after taking a bath in the river Krishna. Therefore, this place got name Hamsaladeevi.

Hamsaladeevi Venugopala Swamy Temple is located on the banks of River Krishna. It is said that this temple is of 1000 years old.  This temple was built during the reign of Eastern Chalukyas. Temple walls were richly carved with the sequences of Ramayana. The Main deity Venugopala resides here with his consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama.

Chaturmukha Brahma Temple Chebrolu History

As per the Legends, Sage Bhrugu cursed Brahma that he will not be worshipped during Kaliyuga. Hence, there are no temples for Lord Brahma on the Earth. Temple at Chebrolu is surrounded by water on the sides with a pathway in the middle. Brahma was engraved on the four sides of the Linga. This Linga is called by Chatrurmukha Brahma Lingeswara. Sahasra Lingeswara, Veerabadhra, Nageswara, and Bhimeswara shrines are located nearby to this temple. Nandi statue which stands outside the temple was carved out of a single red stone.  This temple was built by the King Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu and is of 200 years old.

Chebrolu Brahma Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Temple is located in Guntur district and is the only temple for Brahma in Andhra Pradesh. One Temple for Brahma is located in Kasi and another one at Chebrolu. Temples in Chebrolu is of 2000 years old and dates to  Chola, Chalukya, Pallava, and Kakatiya dynasties. From the inscriptions, it is known that Bayanambini, Commander-In-Chief of Easter Chalukyas conquered Dharanikota (the present Amaravati) and Yanamadula forts and ruled this region with Chebrolu as the capital.

Vedadri Narasimha Swamy Temple Jagayyapeta

As mentioned in the Brahanda Purana, Lord Vishnu in the form of Matsya (fish) recovered Vedas from the demon Somakasura, who had stolen Vedas from Brahma. Vedas took the form of Humans and praised Lord. Vedas in Human form (Veda Purusha) requested Lord to reside on their heads for permanent. Impressed Lord, replied that "Veda Purusha wish and River Krishnaveni  wish to perform daily abhisheka will be fulfilled during his Narasimha Avatar" till then he asked them to reside under the waters of river Krishnaveni as Saligrama stones. Lord Narasimha Swamy an incarnation of Lord Vishnu self-manifested on Vedadri hill after killing the demon Hiranyaskha. Swayambhu Narasimha called by Jwala Narasimha.
As per the folklore, Sage Vedavyaasa directed Sage Rishyasrunga and other sages to perform their penance near Vedadri hill. While in search of a suitable place, they heard the Sounds of Veda Mantras and discovered the Swayambhu Idol inside the Cave. With the blessings from the Lord Narasimha, they did penance here and attained salvation. Yoga Narasimha was installed by the Sage Rishyasrunga. It is said that Brahma installed Saligrama Narasimha Swamy here in the mid of the river Krishna.
It is said that Lord Brahma installed Saligrama Narasimha Swamy in the river Krishnaveni.

Kukke Subramanya Swamy Temple History

As per the Legends, Divine Serpent Vasuki to escape from the mighty Garuda took shelter under Lord Subramanya. Lord Subramanya ordered Garuda not to harm Serpent. During Treta Yuga, Parasurama an incarnation of Lord Vishnu took the bath here at Kumaradhara river to get rid of the sin, after Killing Kshatriyas. During Dwaparayuga, Samba, son of Lord Krishna took bath here to get rid of the Leprosy curse. Kumaradhara is known for curing skin diseases. It is also said that Pandavas took bath here during their Vanavasam time. 


Kukke Subramanya Swamy Temple is located in South Kannada and is known for Naga Dosha Poojas. The main deity here Lord Subramanya and Divine serpent Vasuki are in one Idol. From the Puranas, it is known Lord Subramanya did penance here in these hills before killing Tarakasura.

Punyagiri Siva Temple S Kota

As per the local folklore, In Dwaparayuga, Pandavas stayed here in this forest during their Vanavasam period. It is said that Chinaputturdara falls which is located on the right side of hills which emerges from the base of Siva Linga. There is a constant flow underneath Linga which washes the Linga constantly.There Siva Lingas were installed is a cave nearby which is called by and the water constantly falls on this Lingas. Devotees used to take a bath at these falls before Lord Siva Darshan inside theTemple.

Punyagiri Temple Vizianagaram is dedicated to Lord Siva. It is an ancient temple located in the hills of Punyagiri in the Eastern Ghats. The Main deity is here called by Uma Kotilingeswara Swamy. Temple is 3 km from S.Kota in Vizianagaram district.

Sri Rama Temple Ramatheertham

As per the Legends, In Dwaparayuga, when Pandavas exiled from the Kingdom, they prayed to Lord Krishna for support during their Vanavasam. Krishna gave the Idols of Sita, Rama, Lakshmana and had asked Pandavas to worship these deities. As instructed by the Lord, Pandavas used to worship these idols. Pandavas while moving to a different place, they had asked Vaikhasana Preist Vedagarbha to worship these idols. Vedagarbha and clan used to perform Abhishekam, Archana to these deities regularly. During the times of Buddhism, to protect idols from demolition, the Vaikhasana priests dug the pit and covered with the mud. 
In 16th Century AD, King Poosapati Sita Ramachandra of Gajapati dynasty made Kumbilampuram (Present Kumili Village) as the capital and started ruling this region. Villagers used to gather wood from the forest nearby for their livelihood. One day, while villagers are gathering wood, it started raining heavily with thunders and villagers took shelters under trees. One aged dumb lady a devotee of Lord Rama took shelter under a banyan tree. Lord Rama appeared before her and blessed her with the speech by writing Beejaksharam (Alphabets) on her tongue. Lord Rama asked her to recover Dwaparayuga Idols from the nearby pond and disappeared. As instructed by the Lord, Aged lady somehow conveyed the message to the King. King with this staff recovered the idols from the pond. King with priests installed the Idols on Bhishma Ekadasi day and built the temple on Swetachalam hill. As the Idols recovered from the pond, this shrine was called by Ramatheertham.

Chaturlingeswara Swamy Temple Narayanapuram

From the inscriptions on the temple walls, it is known that this temple was built during the reign of Eastern Gangas. Eastern Ganga King Ananta Varma Choda Ganga Deva who was an ardent devotee of Lord Siva built the temple in 1010 A.D.  Neelakanteswara, Sangameswara, Mallikarjuna and Naleswara Siva shrines are located within the temple complex. Shrine of Neelakanteswara is bigger than the remaining Shrines in the complex. The entrance door was beautifully carved with the Idols of Navagrahas and Lakshmi. Rich carvings of Siva, Kartikeya, Brahma, Vishnu, Saraswati, Nataraj, Arthanareeswara, Vinayaka, Mahisasura Mardini can be seen on the walls of Garba Griha. 
Sangameswara shrine is located to the north of Nilakanteswara shrine. This temple reflects Kalinga architecture and culture. Naleswara shrine is located to the South of Nilakanteswara shrine.

Bobbili Venugopala Swamy Temple History

The Venugopala Swamy temple is an ancient temple and exists from the very beginning of Bobbili. The present form of the temple was built by the King Bobbili, Chinna Ranga Rao of the Bobbili dynasty. He built the Venugopala Swamy temple close to the royal palace and is the famous temple in Bobbili. The Temple tower(Raja Gopuram) at the entrance was built in 1851 AD by Swetha Chalapati Ranga Rao. Mantaps inside the temple was built by the King Krishna Das Ranga Rao in 1825 AD. 
The Vasanth Mantap stands separately in the waters of Narayana Pushkarini(Temple Tank). Every year at the beginning of spring, the Utsava deities will be brought to this Pushkarini for Teppostsavam celebrations. Lord Venugopala with His Consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama will go on a ride in the boat (Teppa). After the celebrations for a day, the Idol will be kept for a day in Dola Yatra Mantap which is located on the banks of this Pushkarini and then carried to the main temple.

Arasavalli Suryanaryana Swamy Sunrays

Arasavalli Temple Sun rays touch Lord's holy feet inside the Sanctum Sanctorum. This happens twice in a year, one is at Uttarayana beginning Time and Second occurrence will be on Dakshinayana beginning time i.e Mar and Sep/Oct. This happens in the early hours between 6:00 am - 6:10 am in a day and the rays remain steady on the deity for few minutes ie. 3 -4 mins in a day and this continues for 3 days. The sun rays pass through the temple tower and touches the head and slowly comes down to the feet of the Sun God. It is believed that these rays increase the power of the deity so worshipping deity during this temple will be auspicious.  It is believed that these rays have the power to cure Skin and eye related problems. 

This temple was first constructed by the divine architect Viswakarma. Sun God Idol was installed and worshipped by Indra, the king of Devas. The Main deity Suryanarayana Idol was exquisitely carved on a black granite stone.

Arasavalli Surya Bhagavan Temple History

It was mentioned in Padma Purana that Suryanarayana (Sun God) born to Sage Kashyap and Aditi. It was the Sage Kashyap who installed Suryanarayana (Sun God) at this place.
As per the legends, during Dwaparayuga, Balarama brother of Lord Krishna brought the river Nagavali with his plough and built a temple on the banks of the river. All Devas worshipped the Lord Rudra Koteswara and Goddess Uma (Parvati) at this temple. Indra, the Heaven God arrived late and tried to enter the temple. Nandi the Divine Gatekeeper, who was guarding the entrance stopped him from entering to prevent any disturbance his master. Indra remained adamant over his demand in entering the temple which made Nandi angry. Nandi thereupon kicked him strongly with his foot and thrown him miles away from the temple on the eastern side. Indra laid in an unconscious state with body pains.  It is said that Indra relieved from the body pains by installing and worshipping the Sun God at his place. Indra created a water pool with his weapon Vajrayudha which was called by IndraPushkarini.

Kallakuru Venkateswara Swamy Temple History

As per the local folklore, Sridhar a Brahmin and a devotee of Lord Venkateswara used to live in Tirumala Hills. Padmavati, a Gandharva Kanya used to play a musical instrument Veena in front of the Lord in the Sanctum Sanctorum. Once Sridhara got attracted to Padmavati and proposed to marry her. Padmavati rejected the proposal for which he got angered and cursed the lady. The lady, in turn, cursed him. To get rid of the Curse, they both prayed for the Lord and Lord told them that Padmavati will take the form of a River near to river Godavari and Sridhara will be born to a Brahmin couple in Karnataka.
AsKarnataka, Padmavati took the form of a river near Godavari and Sridhara after his pilgrimage reached the banks of Padmavati river. Lord appeared in the dreams of Sridhara and revealed his whereabouts. Sridhara recovered the Idol from Asvadda Tree which is on the west to the river Padmavati. On installing the Idol and performing Abhishekam with the water from the river Padmavati, they both relieved from the curse.
