Kailasanathar Temple Kanchipuram History
This temple construction was started by Rajasimha from Pallava dynasty in 685 A.D. Later, this was completed by his son Mahendra Varma III during 705 A.D . This temple is known for its Dravidian style with amazing sculptures. The inner courtyard of Kailasanathar temple was built by Rajaraja Chola during 12th century A.D. There are 58 Siva temples within the temple complex, each with different style. One of the specialties of this temple is the sand stone compound. This temple is very much famous for outstanding limestone art and sculpture.
Interesting things
There is a passage within the temple, where main shrine is, this passage connects from one side to another side in a circle along with the Siva linga. A devotee who walks through this passage with a belief that "some good may happen within seven days in my life" will be blessed with good fortune. Another belief is that one will attain salvation one who pass through this passage. The main lingam has got 16 faces, inner circle of prakaram meant for birth and death. That has been carved in such a way only few with slim personalities may get in through and come out.
