Korukonda Theertham History Timings

As per the Legend, Lord Narasimha self-manifested with His consort Lakshmi Devi on top of the hill on request of Parasara Maharshi. Temple at the foot of the hills was installed by Parasara Maharshi. Temple on top of the hill can be reached by steps path and is 615 steps in total. The main deity inside the temple is 9 inches in height.  It is said that Pandavas worshipped Narasimha Swamy here during their stay near to the hill. 
From the inscriptions, it is known that the temple exists from 1302 AD. Temple walls were carved with the images from the epic Ramayana. Poojas at this temple were performed as stated in Agama Sastra. 

Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Kalyanotsavam will be performed on Phalguna Suddha Ekadasi followed by Rathotsavam in the afternoon hours. Korukonda Theertham will be celebrated in Phalguna Masam ie. in the month of Apr.

Borra Caves Araku Andhra Pradesh

Borra caves also called by Borra Guhalu, where Guha means Cave in Telugu. The Caves are located in Ananthagiri Hills. These caves are located at a height of 705 m with depth goes down to 625 m and trekking path is available for 350 m. These caves were discovered by the research group led by William King in 1807. Later, a research group from Andhra University found tools made out of rocks, which dates to 30,000 to 50,000 years. River Gostahani which flows via Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam emerges from Borra Caves area. There is a naturally formed Siva Linga inside the caves. Sivaratri festival will be celebrated in a grand. The hill routes are occupied with the tribals, Jatapu, Porja, Kondadora, Nookadora, Valmiki and other groups.

Keezhaperumpallam Kethu Temple

As per the Legend, Vasuki was used as the thread and Mount Meru was used as the churning stick to churning Milk Ocean. Due to rapid movement, Vasuki split the Venom into the Ocean. In the process of Amritham extraction, deadly poison came out of the ocean. Lord Siva took the poison to protect the three worlds. After the Amritham extraction, Vasuki regretted spitting Venom into the Ocean which caused inconvenience for the Lord Siva. Vasuki performed strict penance here in seeking pardon for the mistake. Impressed with the penance, Lord Siva appeared before Vasuki and stayed here on Vasuki's request. Hence the deity called by the name Naganatha Swamy.

As per the Legend, Agni (God of Fire) did penance here for Lord Siva, hence the name Agneeswarar for Lord Siva. Kalathira Dosha Nivarana Pooja will be performed at this temple. Lord Brahma was blessed with a vision of Lord Siva’s marriage with Goddess Parvathi at this place. it is believed that Lord Brahma installed Linga here and offered prayers, hence the name Brahma Linga. There is no separate shrine for Sukran and said that Sukran resides in Lord Siva's stomach.
During Vamana Avatar, Lord Vishnu who disguised himself as a Brahmin boy poked Sukran's eye for which he lost his vision. His vision was restored after performing penance for Lord Siva at this place.

As per the Legend, Saint Kalavar did penance to please Navagrahas. Navagrahas were impressed with the strict penance and granted boon. On knowing, the "Adi Devas" angered at this and asked them, "What powers do you have in granting boons?  you are assigned with only the duty of awarding good or bad to the humans based on their Karma".
So Adi Devas cursed them. As they disobeyed the celestial laws and Navagrahas were doomed to become lepers and suffer the agonies of the curse. Navagrahas prostrated before the Devas and begged for their redemption from the curse. Pleased Adi Devas, asked them to perform penance at Arkavana near Tirumangalakudi in the Chola dynasty and advised them to take holy bath in the 9 Theerthas starting from the first Sunday of the Kirthika month and continue the same for the next 11 days succeeding Sundays. Also advised them to perform strict penance for Lord Siva.As advised, Navagrahas performed penance at the respective places and got relieved from the curse.

Belum caves Kurnool


Naturally formed caves under the earth. It is the longest cave which is of 3229 meters in length and in the world and occupies 2nd place in the world. Belum caves were discovered in the year 1984 by the British surveyor Robert Bruce Foote. Later a team from Germany lead by H Daniel Gebauer did research on these caves.
In the year 1988,  Andhra Pradesh State government declared this site as protected and started promoting tourism. AP Archaeological department developed this site for tourism in the year 2000.From Feb 2002, Belum caves were opened for tourists with minimal fee entry. These naturally formed caves underground caves is 120 ft in depth and reaches 150 ft at Paathala Ganga point. Water from Paathala Ganga is pumped to the nearby Belum village which is 2 km away. In the year 1989, Archaeological department recovered the mud vessels used by the Jain saints from these caves.
AP Archaeological department had explored 3.5 km out of 10 km and developed the path for the visitors. Archaeologists have identified another 140 caves surrounding these caves. Caves can be easily reached from Anantapur and Kurnool.

Kotilngeshwara Swamy is located in Kammasandra, Kolar District. 90 Lakh Siva Linga's were installed in the temple complex. First Siva Linga was installed on 10th Oct 1980. Temple stretches on 15 acres and took three decades to installed 90 Lakh Siva Lingas. This temple was built by the devotee Sandhasiva Murthy. This temple was popular by the name Lingamaiah Virat Sannidhi. The Tallest Linga in the compound is of 108 ft high and Nandi statue is of 35 ft high.
There are 11 sub-temples within the compound which are dedicated to Brahma, Vishnu, Venkateswara Swamy, Annapurneswari, Panduranga Swamy, Panchamukha Ganapathi, Sri Rama, Anjaneya Swamy, Kanyaka Parameswari and Santoshini Matha.

Karya Siddhi Vinayaka Temple Chodavaram

It is believed that Lord Vinayaka self-manifested at this place. This temple was built during the reign of Chalukya Kings in 1200 AD. As per the local folklore, 200 years back i.e in 1850 AD, villagers discovered the Idol and tried to move this Idol to the nearby Siva Temple. Villagers were not able to unearth the Idol  as a whole as the trunk was so long. After rigorous effort, they stopped exploring for the base. The place where the villagers made the last trails named it as Enugu Bodhe which is now called by Patha Cheruvu.
This temple was built during the reign of Chalukya dynasty in 1200 AD. Later this temple was renovated in 1956 AD. This is the second temple AP where Lord Vinayaka is believed to be Swayambhu. Worshipping the deity yields good results in the work. It is said that hurdles will be removed and will be blessed with good fortune.

Legend date back to Dwapara Yuga, Agni Deva had severe stomach ache after accepting ghee for 100 years continuously. He then prayed Lord Brahma fo the remedy. Brahma suggested him to perform Kandava Dahanam as the forest has natural herbs. Agni stepped back as Indra's friend Takshak was living in this forest with his family. He then approached Lord Krishna and Arjuna who offered him the protection. With their help, Agni raised himself high and burnt the forest. Indra tried hard to defend the snake Takshak but all his efforts went vain . Takshak who escaped with minor injuries cursed Agni to lose his divinity. Agni then prayed Lord Siva for the help. Lord Siva suggested him to  perform penance for Lord Vishnu. Agni relieved from the curse and installed Lord Vishnu and named Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy.

Legend date back to Treta Yuga, Kaikesi, mother of Ravana ordered her Son Ravana to bring Siva Atma Linga. Ravana performed strict penance for years. Lord Siva was impressed with the Ravana's prayers and blessed with Atma Linga. Lord Siva instructed Ravana, not to keep the Atma Linga on the Earth. Ravana who supposed to offer prayers to Surya Bhagavan during Sunset hours started searching for a helper. Ganesh who disguised him as a Brahmin boy offered his help with a condition. He will place Atma Linga on the Earth if Ravana did not return after the third call. Ravana on return noticed the Atma Linga on the ground. 
Ravana tried hard to extract the Linga, due to the force parts from Linga were thrown away. A portion of the Linga's head portion is said to have fallen at Suratkal.  He then tried to remove the case covering and threw it away, which is said to have fallen at Sajjeshwara.  Ravana then threw the lid of the case in anger which landed at Guneshwara (now Gunavanthe) and Dhareshwara. Finally, Ravana removed the cloth covering Atma Linga and threw it away, which landed at Mrideshwara in Kanduka Giri.  As time passes by Mrideshwara changed to Murudeshwara.

Kurudumale Temple History

Kurudumale was derived from Tamil Word "Koodu Malai" which means ‘meeting hill’.  It is believed that gods chose this place for their recreation. From the legend, it is believed that Lord Siva, Vishnu and Brahma installed and offered prayers to the deity Ganapathi. Hence the place got the name Kudumale.  It is said that Lord Rama offered prayers at this temple while he was searching for Sita. It is also said that Pandavas offered prayers here before the final battle.
The main deity was carved on a single rock which is of 13.5 ft height. This Salagrama Sila stands on a pedestal of 3 feet. It is said that this Idol grows year by year. From the inscriptions, it is known that this temple was built during the reign of Vijayanagara dynasty. There are inscriptions which date to 13th Century of the Hoysala king Veera III. Temple tank is located on the North-East corner to the temple. Inscriptions on the temple walls were written in Tamil.

Legend dates back to Treta Yuga, It is said that Sita Devi stayed on this hill at Valmiki Ashram after her exile from the Kingdom. Sita Devi gave birth to the twin children, Lava and Kusha on top of this hill. Blood stains and footprints of Goddess Sita is still visible. The room where Sita Devi gave birth is still available. Temple is 14 km from Mulbagal.
Jambavantha Temple is also seen here. Legend dates back to Dwapara Yuga when Lord Krishan fought with Jambavantha to procure Samanthaka mani. It is said that the war happened here in this village. Jambavantha, who lost the battle, offered the diamond and requested Lord Krishna to marry Jambavathi, Daughter of Jambavantha. Rama, Bharatha, Lakshmana and Shatrugna installed Siva Lingas to get rid of their sin in raging a war on children (Lava and Kusha).
Goddess Parvathi appeared in the dreams of Adi Sankaracharya and ordered Sankarcharaya to install Sita Devi statue next to her. Adi Sankaracharya completed the ordered as instructed. Hence the shrine popular by the name Sita Parvati Temple.

Temples for Rama Lingeswara, Bharatha, Lakshman and Shatrugna were built during the reign of Nolamba dynasty of 10th Century AD. Later this temple was renovated during the reign of Vijayanagara dynasty.

Basara Saraswathi Temple History

As per the Brahmanda Puranam,  During Dwaparayuga, After Mahabharatha war,  Vyasa Maharshi was disturbed and went on a pilgrimage for peace. On reaching, Kumarachala Hills which lies on the banks of River Godavari, he started meditating. Vyasa Maharshi used to carry a handful of sand from river Godavari on each day and started preparing sand hill at three places.  Divine Trinity was impressed with Sage Vyasa penance and self-manifested at Basara in her three forms. The Sand dunes turned into Goddess Saraswathi,  Goddess Maha Lakshmi and Goddess Kali. As Vyasa Maharshi installed these deities, this place was called by Vyasa Puram which then turned to Vyasra and now called by the name Basara.
From the Puranas, it is known that Lord Siva, Ganapathi, Surya Bhagavan and Indra did penance on these hills. Kumara Swamy Performed penance on this hills, hence the name Kumarachala Hills.
Goddess Saraswati and Maha Lakshmi deities are in the same shrine side by. Goddess Kali temple is located close to this temple.

1. Draksharamam Temple

It is said that Surya Bhagavan fixed Siva linga at Bhimavaram by worshiping and building the temple.
Sri Bhimeswara Temple is a two-storeyed building having Dviprakanas.  These stone boundary walls rise to a considerable height. The temple can be approached by four Dwaras (gates) on the cardinal directions and each of them has gopuram over it. The western gopuram is relatively bigger than the other three Gopuram viz., north, east and south.

2. Kumararama Temple

Kumara Swamy had installed the Siva Linga here.From inscriptions, it is known that this temple was built by Eastern Chalukyan king Bhima during 9th and 10th centuries.

3. Somarama Temple

It is believed that Chandra (Soma or Moon) installed Linga here by worshipping the Idol.
Linga inside the Sanctum  Sanctorum keeps changing the colours from White to brown. On a full moon day, Linga appears in pure white colour and it will be Brown on No moon day (Amavasya day)
It is said that the Moon God worshipped Lord Siva to get rid of his sins. Temple tank Chandra Pushkarini located opposite to the temple is called by Soma Gundam.

4, Amararama Temple

Amaravati Temple is as holy as the Varanasi Temple in the Northern India and the river Krishna is as holy as the River Ganga which flows next to Varanasi Temple.
Lord Indra with his Guru Brihaspati established the first and biggest piece and named the Lord as Amareswara.

5. Ksheerarama Temple

Lord Vishnu Installed Siva Linga here.  From the inscriptions, it is known that this temple was built by the King Bheemeswara in the year 918 A.D. The main deity inside the Sanctum Sanctorum is of 2 feet height. It is known from the inscriptions that Great poets Nanayya, Thikkana, Srinatha visited this shrine.

According to legend, during Tretayuga, Lakshmana was hurt during the final battle and lost conscious. Lord Rama ordered Anjaneya to bring Sanjeevini Parvatham so that Lakshmana can be revived. While Anjaneya on his way to Lanka, Sanjeevini dropped on this hill, hence the name Sanjeeva Konda. This hill possesses medicinal properties which heal all types of diseases.
Lord Siva at Srisailam, once decided to stay closer to the devotees for which he first stepped on Nagarjuna Konda and about to place his second foot on Sanjeeva Konda. Sanjeeva Konda then raised a concern about bearing his weight.Lord Siva angered for his innocence and educated the hill. Lord Siva then said that Sanjeevini on this hills will only be effective when you left your pride. Sanjeeva Konda realised his mistake and prayed for Lord Siva. Pleased Siva, self-manifested on this hill.

As stated in the Puranas, Tarakasura's three sons, Vidyunnathi, Tarakakshudu, Kamalakshudu, want to take the revenge for their father death. They performed strict penance for years for the Lord Brahma. Impressed Brahma appeared before them and granted the boon with conditions set. As per the boon, each one was allotted with a city which flies in the air and they will have not threats when they are in their places. And the Condition is that their supernatural powers will weaken if three cities come closer and stay strong when they are apart. With their Supernatural powers, they conquered Heaven and The Earth. Lord Brahma with Devas approached Lord Siva for the rescue. Lord Siva demolished the cities and killed the demons when they got closer. Lord Siva self-manifested after killing the demon. Lord Siva took help from Goddess during the war with the demon and goddess self-manifested after killing the demon along with Lord Siva.

Tripurantakam is the East Gate of the Srisailam Temple. As per the Puranas, Lord Siva self-manifested here at Kumaragiri hill as Tripurantakeswara after killing the demon Tripurasura. Bala Tripura Sundari emerged from Chitagni Gundam which is North of Kumaragiri Hill, after killing the demons. As per Puranas, Goddess self-manifested at Kathambhavana. As stated in the Puranas, Kumara Swamy, The Commander-In-Chief, killed the demon Tarakasura on top of this hill.

Siva Linga was discovered by the dumb farmer while plowing the farm land. Blood started oozing out of the Linga which was hit by the plow . Dumb farmer started shouting after seeing the special lights from the Linga. Villagers unearthed the Self-manifested Siva Linga. Later, Chola Kings installed Swayambhu and One Linga of 3 feet height in the same complex. 
From the inscriptions written in Tamil and Telugu, it is known that this temple was built by Chola Kings and is of 1000 years old. Temple received huge contributions during Chola period. The inner structure resembles Gudimallam temple architecture.

In the year 1961, Homi J Baba established Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) to perform space research. Later, DAE emerged as Indian National Committee for Space Research in the year 1962. On 21st Nov 1963, Space research center launched Two-Phase sounding rocket which was imported from five countries. Aryabhatta, Rohini Satellites were launched from Russia. In the year 1969, It is renamed as Indian Space research Organization and identified Srihari Kota for building Space research center as it is 13 degrees to the orbit. With the success from ASLV and PSLV, ISRO in the year 10 Aug 1979, established SLV-3 e1 for satellite launching.
Srihari rocket center was built on an island between Pulicat Lake and The Bay of Bengal. It stretches on an area of 44,000 Sq,km. Right now, Sriharikota is holding two launching pads and the third one is in progress.

Venkatagiri Jathara was in place from 1714 AD. In 1917 AD, Cholera was spreading heavily in this region. Then then Venkatagiri Raja performed Seethala Yagam and installed Astadhigbhandhan Yantras. In the year 1919 AD, Rajas performed Poleramma Jatara in a grand, From then on, Jathara was celebrated regularly by the devotees.
On Ghatotsavam day, Kummari community who lives at Venkatagiri Kummari street prepares the Idol of Poleramma with Clay. Eyes will not be placed to the deity. This Idol will be taken out in a procession from Puttinill (Kummari street) to Mettinillu (In-law's Home at Jeenigala Vari street), Chakali House. Eyes will be placed after reaching in-laws house. Deity will be kept outside in the street for two days, during this time devotees offer special poojas to the deity. After two days, the deity will go around the streets of the Vekatagiri followed by Nimarjan. Nimarjanam will be performed at specially reserved place at Kaivalya river bed.
It is strictly followed that, devotees who are inside town at the time of Chatimpu are not supposed to leave town till Jathara ends.
From 1992 onward, Jathara event was performed by AP Endowements department.

Birds from distance places reach Nelapattu for their reproduction. Usually, birds inflow starts from the month of October. Birds used to feed on Pulicat Lake and build their nests at Nelapattu. In the year 1976, Pulicat Wildlife department established bird sanctuary at Nelapattu . It is said that 30 variety of birds, which are in thousands stays at Nelapattu from Oct- Apr and leaves the place after reproduction. Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary covers an area of 458.92 Hectare. Birds from Nigeria, Bangladesh, Burma, Pakistan are mainly seen here. Bird used to feed on Pulicat which is 20 km from Nelapattu.

Rishi Salihotrar did penance on the banks of Pushkarini for a year. At end of his Tapasya i.e Jan/Feb month, he offered Nivedana to the deity. It is a usual practice to offer food to the guest before having food. Lord in the form of an old Brahmin asked for the food. The Sage offered food which he reserved for the guest. Old Brahmin was not satisfied and asked for more. Sage gave him his part as well. Brahmin left the place after having food. The sage continued his penance without having food.
Next year, at the end of his Tapsya, sage after offering Nivedana, he was waiting for the guest. The same Brahmin asked him for the food which left Sage with no food. Brahmin then asked Sage for the space to relax. Sage offered space on his lap for sleep. Lord then laid in a reclining posture and revealed his original form to the Sage and also granted his wish, that whoever prays at this holy shrine will be blessed with good fortune.

Pulicat Lake Nellore Birds Sanctuary

In 1976, Government of India recognized and established bird Sanctuary at Pulicat Lake and Nelapattu. Many Foreign origin birds spend their time here for reproduction. Birds reside on the trees at Nelapattu, Vedurupattu, Bodilingalapadu and Srihari Kota island and feed on Pulicat Lake during their stay. Birds reach Pulicat by Oct and stay till Mar/Apr months. In 1976, Pulicat Lake was under Rajahmundry circle later moved to Tirupati Circle in 1980. Later, it came under Wild Life Division in 1982. Pulicat Wild Life Protection Center was established in 1985 and is governed by DFO.

Grey Pelicans stay at Nelapattu from Oct-Mar/Apr for their reproduction and feeds on Pulicat Lake
Flamingos use Pulicat for their food. They stay at Pulicat Lake for days.
Painted Storks stay at Vedurupattu lake and Srihari Kota Beripeta and uses Pulicat Lake for their food.
Grey Heron, Black Ducks, White Ducks, Marbled teal, Terns, Egrets, Kites and Partridges, Quails, Sea Gulls,Open-billed Stork, curlews, stilts, plovers, sandpipers, lapwings, redshank, Shoveler, Garganey, Gadwall, Marsh Sandpiper and Black-tailed Godwit used to visit this place.

Flamingo Festival

The then District Collector Praveen Kumar visited Pulicat Lake in 2000 and organized a plan for 3 days Flamingo festival in 2001. In 2013, State Government of Andhra Pradesh had it on their list and celebrated Flamingo Festival on 9th,10th, and 11th Jan. Every year this festival will be celebrated in a grand at Sulurpeta, Nelapattu, and Tada.

Thingalur Chandran Temple

As per the legend. Chandran had 27 wives, who are daughters of Daksha Prajapathi, among all his wives, Rohini was his favorite. Chandran used to spend most of his time Rohini, ignoring other wives. Knowing this from his Daughters, Daksha cursed Chandran that he would gradually fade away. Chandran did penance for Lord Siva here, to get relieved from Daksha's curse. To save Chandran the curse, Siva decorated him on his head as the crescent moon. As Daksha's curse can't be ignored, Chandran will Wane for the first 15 days, and Waning for the next 15 days.

This is one of the Navagraha Sthalam in Chennai which is dedicated to Chandran. The uniqueness of this temple that Nandi will not face the deity Siva inside the temple. It is believed that Chandran did penance here for Lord Siva.

Angarakan (Chevvai), son of Lord Siva, who born from the drop of Lord Siva's.  Once, When Lord Siva was in deep meditation, a drop of sweat from the Siva's forehead fell on the Earth. A male child was born out of this drop. It is said that Lord Siva cured Angarakan skin disease, following which he joined Navagraha Club.
One should take a holy dip at Temple Tank 'Siddsmrita' before entering the temple, which is believed to possess healing properties for skin diseases.

Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva. There is a footprint of Angakaran at the entrance of the temple. This is the Angaraka Sthalam located km away from Poonamalle Bus station. Adi Sankaracharya had installed 3 Chakras inside the shrine, which are, Sri Chakra, Shanmuga Chakra and Subramanya Chakra.

Kovur Thirumeyneeswarar Temple

Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva. Kovur temple near Porur where the great Saint Thyagaraja stayed and composed three famous songs for Lord shiva. This temple is popular as Budhan Sthalam.
As per the Legends, Goddess Kamakshi performed a strict penance to marry Lord Siva by standing on Panchagni in Maangaadu. This Panchagni generated enormous heat and affecting living beings on the Earth. Sages and Devas approached Lord Vishnu for the rescue, who in turn requested Goddess Lakshmi to save the people on the Earth. On His request, Lakshmi did penance here  for Lord Siva in the form of a cow. Impressed with Lakshmi's prayers, Lord Shiva absorbed the heat and it became cooler. From then this place called by "Kopuri" and later into Kovur.

Abathsahyeswarar Temple, Alangudi
